Activekidsns.ca was created with the intent of providing support to those that promote physical activity, to stimulate program ideas, to share resources and to provide networking opportunities in order to motivate and increase the capacity of children and youth to be active and healthy. On a monthly basis, Success Stories E-Bulletins will be distributed by Recreation Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection to stakeholders and partners and the Evidence Based Interventions Bulletins will be distributed on a quarterly basis.

Success Stories is based on submissions of physical activity programs, services and initiatives targeted at children and youth that have resulted in positive outcomes. Success Stories contained on this site have been initiated and coordinated by a multitude of stakeholders that support physical activity, including government, communities, recreational and leisure services, education, health charities and health promotion, sporting organizations and others.

Recreation Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection, believes the sharing of "Success Stories" will contribute to the development of successful programs and services which will promote and increase the physical activity levels of children and youth in Nova Scotia, leading to more active lives.

Evidence Based Interventions
This site contains information on research and systematic reviews of selected population based interventions designed to increase levels of physical activity for children and youth focusing on three areas:

  1. Informational approaches to increasing physical activity.
  2. Behavioral and social approaches to increasing physical activity.
  3. Environmental and policy changes to increasing physical activity.

*Decision makers should consider these evidence-based suggestions in light of local needs, goals, and constraints when choosing interventions to implement.

Provincial and National Inventory
This section lists an inventory of provincial and national programs, resources and tools that support physical activity for children, youth and the community in general. There is a brief description and a link to the different sites that will provide details and contact information.
